Early Photography – Cyanotype
Cyanotype is recognized as one of the earliest photographic printing techniques. This method involves coating paper or other materials with a photosensitive solution, which requires careful chemical preparation.
Since the photosensitive chemicals are typically brushed onto the surface by hand, the edges of the resulting image often display distinct, irregular brush strokes after processing. The signature blue tones produced by cyanotype offer a unique artistic effect and add both individuality and classic beauty to photographic works.

Overview of Cyanotype
Cyanotype images are produced by exposing iron salt compounds to light, resulting in their iconic blue coloration. Well-preserved works can last a considerable amount of time without significant fading.
Cyanotype prints are typically created using a contact printing method, where the negative must match the desired print size. In the past, making large cyanotype prints required photographers to use large format cameras, which could be challenging to transport. With the advent of computers and software, digital negatives can now be made for cyanotype printing, offering much greater flexibility; the aspect ratio of photographs is no longer a restriction when working with digital negatives.
