Tribute to Xie Hailong – Big Eyes Palladium Print
Xie Hailong was born in 1951, began to focus on China’s basic education in poverty-stricken areas in 1990, with the camera record Hope Project. In 1991, Xie Hailong’s photo series of Hope Project Documentary (among which “Big Eyes” was widely known) became a symbol of Hope Project.
In the late 1980s, he took pictures in rural China and found that many poor children were forced to drop out of school due to poor economic conditions. This is Xie’s most famous work – “big eyes.” The little girl named Su Mingjuan attracted many people’s attention at that time and attracted many donors and volunteers to join the “Hope Project” in China.
In 1992, he entered China Youth Daily as a photojournalist. Former China Photographers Association Party members, deputy secretary-general, head of the formation group, China Photographers Association, director of the Information Center, Director of China Youth Development Foundation, China Charity Federation candlelight project executive director, Beijing Photographers Association , Vice president of Beijing Wide-angle Photographic Society, editorial board member of “Popular Photography”, and currently vice chairman of China Federation of Literary and Art Circles Volunteers Association.
Brief introduction of the works: Su Mingjuan (8 years old with big eyes), Sanhe Township School, Jinzhai County, Anhui Province, commutes to work 24 hours a day and studies hard.
